Steering damper

I ren into an old acquaintance of mine from my college days who had a 899 a couple of years ago and he said to get steering damper for this bike, as it would change how it drove. I'm not sure what he meant, but I'd like to get a second opinion. Is it worth it and what would you recommend?

Not bad idea, just make sure you get one that's meant for the 899 or at least a similar sport bike to get the right fit and damping settings
